THE POWER OF ADVERSITY: Single Mom to Global CEO with Chris King
Want a little inspiration in your day? Chris King will deliver that in spades!
Her story is so remarkable, Harvard Business School teaches it as a business case.
No stranger to adversity, Chris was an 18-year-old single mother with just a high school diploma, a pile of rejections and very few prospects. Instead of accepting defeat and letting fear and self-pity devour her, she dared to turn adversity into opportunity … over and over again. Ms. King rose through the ranks of IBM and, in 2001, became the semiconductor industry’s first female CEO.
Despite skeptics at every corner and some devastating career setbacks, she kept turning adversity into opportunity. For instance, she built a $2.5 BILLION-dollar business in just 5 years – from scratch. Then she built another billion-dollar business in just 3 years.
As global CEO for AMIS, King she doubled the firm in just 3 years to become a $450M industry leader.
How? Well, she certainly didn’t do it by playing the “woman” card. In an industry labeled the toughest high-tech area for women, King doesn’t dwell on gender. “It’s a great honor to be the first female semiconductor CEO, but I’m so driven by results, I don’t even think about it.”
Today, Chris remains an active member of a number of company boards.
She is also a champion equestrian in the sport of cow cutting.
Ms. King offers a refreshingly honest and vulnerable rendition of her career lessons learned. Join Ms. King and host Cat Breet for a refreshingly honest and vulnerable conversation about how she broke through the barriers. She’ll share her 5Ps (best lessons learned) and inspire you to turn the adversity in your life into opportunity.
